Coach's Hydration Minute

One-minute lessons for busy coaches. Every week we release a short, evidence-based video breaking down a single hydration concept you can use at your next practice.

Topics range from pre-practice fluid loading to hot-weather adjustments to recognizing early signs of dehydration in young athletes.

What this means for coaches

You don't need a nutrition degree. You need short, reliable answers to the questions that come up every week.

FAQ

Coaches ask us

How often should athletes drink during practice?

As a general guide, every 15–20 minutes during moderate to hard activity. In heat, more often. The best practices build these breaks into the plan so athletes don't rely on thirst as a cue.

Is plain water enough for a two-hour practice?

For most practices over about 60 minutes — especially in heat — water alone isn't ideal. Athletes lose sodium in sweat, and replacing it helps performance, focus, and recovery.

What are the early signs of dehydration I should watch for?

Cramping, headaches, unusual fatigue, unusually poor decision-making late in practice, and dark urine are all common early signals. Any one of them warrants a conversation with the athlete.

Do I need to buy Acuity to use your resources?

No. Coach's Corner is free, and always will be. Our mission is hydration education first. If Acuity ends up being a fit for your program later, that's a bonus.
